Bloom time
Also known as bloom time · tiempo de bloom · duración de floración · degassing time
What it is and what sets it apart: Distinct from bloom (action/water mass) and espresso preinfusion. Fresher coffee often needs longer; rested, shorter.
How it’s used or measured: Time ~30–45 s after pouring 2–3× dose; adjust ±10 s by bubbling and taste. Log seconds in Brew Lab.
Flavours and cup impact: Right: saturated bed, fewer mid-brew gas bursts. Too short: dry channels; too long: flat/cool start.
Technical notes: Not total contact time or shot-time.
Common mistakes: Two-minute blooms “just in case”. Confusing with preinfusion. Not weighing bloom water.
