Ratio

Also known as proporción · brew ratio · coffee-to-water ratio · relación café-agua

Balanza y vertido: ratio café-agua en preparación filtrada

What it is and what sets it apart: Filter 1:16 = 1 g coffee per 16 g water through the bed. Espresso brew ratio (dose:yield, e.g. 1:2) differs. Not dose alone and not extraction yield.

How it’s used or measured: Weigh coffee and water/beverage. Pick target ratio → tune grind. Ratio is central in Brew Lab.

Flavours and cup impact: Shorter ratio → stronger; longer → milder (if extraction keeps up). Benefit: repeatability.

Technical notes: Ratio moves strength; extraction quality still needs grind/time/temp.

Common mistakes: Changing ratio and grind together. Mixing filter ratio with espresso in:out. Confusing with EY%.
