Bloom

Also known as floración · degassing pour · pre-wet · blooming

Bloom / floración en pour-over con dripper

What it is and what sets it apart: Bloom is the initial pre-wet in filter/pour-over—distinct from bloom time (duration) and espresso preinfusion. Goal: degas and wet without brewing the whole recipe yet.

How it’s used or measured: Pour ~2–3× coffee weight, wait ~30–45 s, optional swirl, then continue. Log bloom grams and seconds in Brew Lab.

Flavours and cup impact: Good bloom: fewer mid-brew gas bursts, more even extraction, cleaner sweetness. Too little on fresh coffee → dry pockets.

Technical notes: Fresher coffee often needs a fuller bloom. Not bypass and not the whole pulse profile.

Common mistakes: Skipping bloom on very fresh coffee. Endless blooms without reason. Confusing bloom with espresso preinfusion.
