Coarse grind

Also known as coarse grind · molienda gruesa · coarse · gros

Molinillo: molienda gruesa (prensa / cold brew)

What it is and what sets it apart: Relative to method, not a grinder number. Distinct from medium (filter) and fine (espresso).

How it’s used or measured: Start coarse and tune time by taste. Log coarse setting with press/cold brew in Brew Lab.

Flavours and cup impact: Right: cleaner immersion cups. Too coarse: weak/sour. Benefit: match long immersion.

Technical notes: Cold brew and press live here; espresso almost never.

Common mistakes: Using coarse for espresso “to avoid clogging”. Equating coarse with zero fines.
