Contact time

Also known as contact time · brew time · tiempo de infusion · dwell time

Tiempo de contacto agua–café en inmersión

What it is and what sets it apart: Distinct from generic extraction-time labels and from barista shot-time. Immersion ≈ whole brew; percolation ≈ water through the bed.

How it’s used or measured: Time from first wet to cut/drip end. Retune grind if outside the method window. Log in Brew Lab.

Flavours and cup impact: Short+coarse: under; long+fine: over. Benefit: diagnose time vs particle size.

Technical notes: Espresso contact is short but intense. Not bloom time alone.

Common mistakes: Endless stirring to stretch time. Equating press contact with V60. Ignoring grind.
