Immersion

Also known as immersion · inmersión · extracción por inmersión · immersion brewing

Extracción por inmersión (prensa francesa)

What it is and what sets it apart: Opposite of percolation (water through a bed that drains). Hybrids exist (Aeropress). Agitation and time matter more than pour pattern.

How it’s used or measured: Combine coffee + water → optional stir → wait → separate. Control ratio, grind (often coarser) and time. Log as immersion in Brew Lab.

Flavours and cup impact: Done well: round body/sweetness; too long/fine: bitterness and sludge. Benefit: forgiving and educational.

Technical notes: Not pulse pouring (still staged percolation).

Common mistakes: Espresso grind in a press. Confusing immersion with bypass.

In Cafesito

Save coffees to your pantry, brew with method and keep your diary.
