Neapolitan coffee maker

Also known as cafetera napolitana · Napoletana · flip dripper · cuccumella

Cafetera napoletana / cuccumella

The Napoletana has two chambers. Heat water, flip the pot, and gravity pulls water through the coffee into the serving side.

Softer, more filter-like than moka—less pressure, more ritual. Suits medium filter roasts.

Flip fully and do not serve too early. In Cafesito log it under Brew Lab (e.g. Italiana/Manual).

Do not confuse it with a moka pot: pressure and body differ.

How to use

Ratios, gear and steps to brew it.

Ratios and parameters

  • Dose 15–18 g
  • Water 250–300 ml
  • Ratio ≈1:15–1:17
  • Grind Medium (filter)
  • Temperature Boiling water → flip
  • Time Until drip finishes after flip

  • Neapolitan flip pot
  • Stove
  • Grinder
  • Cups

Brewing steps

  1. Fill lower chamber with water; coffee in the mid filter.

  2. Heat to a gentle boil.

  3. Flip carefully (use a mitt): water drips through coffee into the serving chamber.

  4. Wait for drip; serve without stirring grounds.

Tips

  • Not a moka—don’t expect the same pressure or body.
  • If weak: slightly finer grind or more dose.
