Roast

Tipping

Also known as tip · puntas quemadas · bean tipping · pointes brûlées

What it is and what sets it apart: Tips darken or char before the rest. Differs from scorching (face) and facing (flat side on drum).

How it is done: Ease early gas/air → don’t skip drying → check green density/moisture → cup and inspect tips.

Flavours and cup benefits: Cup: smoky/astringent notes; lost sweetness. Fixing it improves lot uniformity.

Technical notes: Dense beans + high charge raise risk. Sample trier and lot photos help QC.

Common mistakes: Blaming origin only. Max gas through drying “to save time”.
