Roast

Freezing coffee

Also known as freeze coffee · congelación · frozen beans

What it is and what sets it apart: Differs from dumping an open kilo in the freezer—moisture cycling is the enemy. Specialty freezes for stock, not as a daily fridge.

How it is done: Portion → purge/seal → freeze → take one portion and grind (often still cold); don’t thaw–refreeze.

Flavours and cup benefits: Keeps freshness for weeks/months if sealed well. Buy special lots without rushing the bag.

Technical notes: Whole bean > ground. Avoid warm humid open. Label roast and freeze dates.

Common mistakes: Do not freeze–thaw the same bag repeatedly. Do not freeze loose grounds as default.
