Water conductivity

Also known as conductivity · EC · conductividad eléctrica · µS/cm

Conductividad: Proxy rápido de sales disueltas (µS/cm)

What it is and what sets it apart: EC estimates ions—not identical to gravimetric TDS or split GH/KH, but useful for water batches. Distinct from beverage TDS.

How it’s used or measured: Use a calibrated EC meter on starting water. Convert to ppm only with the meter’s factor. Log water EC in Brew Lab, not cup TDS.

Flavours and cup impact: Very low EC ≈ distilled quirks; very high ≈ heavy minerals. Benefit: catch tap/filter drift.

Technical notes: EC→TDS factors vary. For fine recipes still measure GH/KH.

Common mistakes: Treating EC as espresso TDS. Uncalibrated meters. Ignoring temperature effects.
