Sensory and cupping

Calibration session

Also known as calibration session · cupping calibration · alineación sensorial

What it is and what sets it apart: Goal: reduce individual bias. Distinct from a buying cupping without reference discussion.

How it’s perceived or evaluated: Blind samples + known anchors → individual scores → reveal → discuss outliers → agree language.

Flavours, benefits or impact: Consistency for bar, roast and QC. Fewer fights over card notes.

Technical notes: Cadence by volume (weekly/monthly). Document agreements. Include common origin defects.

Common mistakes: Do not calibrate without blinds. Do not impose one opinion without data. Do not skip awkward defects.
