AST (Authorized SCA Trainer)

Also known as Authorized SCA Trainer · AST · formador SCA autorizado · SCA hub

What it is and what sets it apart: Without an AST there is no valid official SCA exam. Differs from a private coach or “SCA-style” course: only ASTs can certify under the programme.

At the bar: Find a nearby AST in the SCA directory → confirm dates, language, fees (course vs exam) and level → book and prep the syllabus.

Impact on the drink: Impact: real access to the certificate and feedback aligned with what the exam grades.

Technical notes: Always ask what the fee includes (theory, practice, exam, retake). Prices vary by country. Verify authorised status.

Common mistakes: Joining “SCA courses” without an AST. Paying for the course only and discovering the exam is separate. No confirmation of certification.

How to use

Combine real bar practice with a verifiable SCA certification plan.

Steps

  1. Pick an AST and Foundation (or next) level and book a date.

  2. Train espresso, milk and hygiene from a logged recipe on a timer.

  3. Mock the exam and schedule the next level when solid.

Tips

  • A certificate does not replace shifts—do both.
